Submission Guidelines

Our submission window is currently closed. We will open again later in 2024.

Guidelines for our debut issue were as follows:

  • We welcome submissions of poems and short stories from Ireland and abroad, in English.
  • Please only submit work to one category per submission period.
  • SHORT STORY SUBMISSIONS: One story of at least 500 and no more than 2,000 words in length.
  • POETRY SUBMISSIONS: Up to three poems of no more than 40 lines each.
  • We are not accepting nonfiction submissions or works in translation at this time.
  • The poems and stories submitted must be unpublished and the author’s own work. We will not accept work was created in any way using artificial intelligence.
  • Submissions are accepted via email only.  Send all submissions as a Word or PDF attachment to submissions@ragairemagazine.com with the applicable submission type in the subject line – ‘Poetry Submission’ or ‘Short Story Submission’. The document title should match the poem/short story title. If submitting more than one poem (max 3), please use an individual Word or PDF document for each poem submitted.
  • Your name must not be part of the document title or anywhere within your attached document as all submissions are read blind by the editorial team.
  • In the body of the email, please include the title of the piece(s) you are submitting and a bio of no more than 50 words, written in the third person.
  • Simultaneous Submissions: We accept simultaneous submissions. If another magazine has accepted a piece for publishing before we have responded, we are happy for the writer. Please notify us as soon as possible to remove the piece from our submission list by sending an e-mail to submissions@ragairemagazine.com with the subject line “Withdraw.”
  • Unfortunately we are not in a position to pay contributors at the moment, but all contributors will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which they are published.
  • We strongly advise contributors to submit early. We will accept submissions until the submission closure date (see home page) or until our maximum number of submissions for consideration has been met, whichever date is sooner. Submissions received outside of this window will not be considered, even if the submission period closes early.
  • Please note that once submitted, a piece cannot be altered other than to be withdrawn.
  • We aim to contact everyone within four months.
  • We ask for first publishing rights for any pieces selected for inclusion in the magazine, and additionally for rights to post select pieces on our website. Copyright remains with the original author/artist at all times.
  • Please note that a submission that does not follow the guidelines above may not be considered.
  • Thank you to all who submit to Ragaire Literary Magazine.
